Question: I have an Oily Skin, and would like to know what products to use to reduce and control the shine? T. Lagos

Answer: It can be a hassle to wake up in the morning and find your face oily and greasy, or look in the mirror mid-day and see alot of oil around your nose and T-zone, however, one great thing about having Oily skin is that you are less prone to wrinkles so be happy! :)  To best understand what products to use for your skin, it is really important to understand your skin type.

Oily skin is defined as skin with alot of sebum(oil)production, this shine can be exhibited on the forehead, nose, and chin area. If you have oily skin, you are also more prone to breakout due to the high levels of sebum production. When caring for oily skin the most important thing to do is to “control” the oil. This means looking for ingriedents that “absorb” oil like Kaolin and Bentonite Clay.  When it comes to facial cleansers, the following are great:

FACE WASH:

Dermalogica Dermal Clay cleanser

Kiehls Rare Earth, Deep Pore cleanser

Facial Masque:

Queen Helene Mint Julep

MOISTURIZER

When dealing with Oily Skin, it might seem like moisturizer is NOT needed, but remember, oiliness is a result of sebum production and NOT hydration. Hydrating your face is VERY important, but when picking a moisturizer, pick one that is “OIL-FREE”, for example:

Olay Oil-Free Moisturizer:

Clean and Clear Advantage Oil-Free Moisturizer:

Since sunscreen is an important part of all skin care regardless of type, Oily Skin should be on the lookout for special sunscreens, nowadays there are sunscreens with “Oil-Free” labels on them, a great sunscreen however, is Dermalogica’s Solar Defense booster spf50,

-this lightweight sunscreen, glides on easily to your face, leaving no residue or oily after effect.

Since this post is mostly about skincare, we will not delve to0 much into makeup, but do checkout a post on it later. To fight oiliness throughout the day, try these following products.

* BMPRO invisible blotting powder

* MAC blot film
